Cee

Decide what the Cee assistant can see and do. Set how much of your data it reads, which fields and tools it uses, and how long conversations are kept.

What Cee can see

Cee is the assistant in the top bar. It answers questions about the product, and, when you let it, it builds queries, cohorts, funnels and journeys and explains the results on screen. How much of your data it can read is your decision, made once for the whole server in Settings, AI Assistants.

Three levels decide what reaches it.

  • Nothing. With Share event and property names off, Cee answers questions about the documentation only. It cannot build a query or read a result.
  • Names. With Share event and property names on, Cee sees your projects' events and properties with their recorded values, and the names of cohorts, funnels and journeys. That is what it needs to build queries, cohorts, funnels and journeys.
  • Names and results. With Share aggregated query results on as well, Cee can also read the results on screen and run follow-up queries to explain them. Summarize and Investigate need this level.

Recorded values come with the names. If a property holds personal data, such as an email address, hide that property to keep its values away from Cee.

Whatever the level, each person's Cee works only in the projects that person can open.

How Cee’s access is decided

The settings below decide what Cee can do, from the broadest to the narrowest.

  1. How Cee reaches the AI model. How Cee reaches AI picks the Countly AI gateway, your own OpenAI, Google Gemini or Anthropic keys, or Off. With your own keys Cee calls the provider straight and does not answer until at least one provider has a key. With Off it does not answer at all.
  2. The data level. Nothing, names, or names and results, as described in What Cee can see.
  3. One switch per tool. Drill agent, Cohort agent, Funnel agent and Journey agent build things and need names. Drill insights agent and Funnel insights agent summarize and investigate results and need names and results. A tool works only when its own switch is on and its level is allowed, and the Settings page locks a switch while its level is off.
  4. How fields are shared. Sharing shares every event and property except the ones you hide, or only the ones you allow.
  5. The hidden and allowed lists. An event or property on a hidden list stays hidden even when it is also on the allowed list. Each entry applies to every project, unless you picked it under one project, where it applies to that project only.

Beyond these settings, each person's Cee only reaches the projects that person can open.

Use Cases

Keep personal data away from Cee

Hide the properties and events that hold personal data, so that Cee never sees them.

  1. Open Settings, then AI Assistants.
  2. Under What the assistant can see, add the properties to Hidden properties. Pick a property under one project to hide it in that project only, or at the top of the list to hide it in every project. To hide a whole group at once, pick All user properties, All custom properties or All event segments.
  3. Add any event you want kept away to Hidden events the same way. All events blocks every event, including events a project starts tracking later.
  4. Save.
  5. To check the result field by field, open Manage, then Cee Privacy. Fields lists every event and property, whether Cee can see it, and which setting decides it.

Share only what you approve

Start from nothing and let Cee see only the events and properties you have approved, so anything a project starts tracking later stays private until you allow it.

  1. Open Settings, then AI Assistants.
  2. Set Sharing to Only what I allow.
  3. Add the events to Allowed events and the properties to Allowed properties, at the top of each list for every project or under one project for that project only.
  4. Allow the segments you need too. Allowing an event does not share its segments.
  5. Save.

Turn off query results or a single tool

Let Cee help people build queries without reading any results, or switch off one tool you do not want offered.

  1. Open Settings, then AI Assistants.
  2. To keep results away from Cee, turn off Share aggregated query results. Cee can still build queries, cohorts, funnels and journeys, but it can no longer summarize or investigate results, and the buttons that ask it to are no longer offered on results.
  3. To switch off a single tool, turn off its own switch under Agents, for example Journey agent.
  4. Save.

Review what Cee was kept from and what it stores

Check what your settings keep away from Cee, what conversations it stores, and who changed its settings.

  1. Open Manage, then Cee Privacy.
  2. Fields shows every event and property, whether Cee can see it, and which setting decides it.
  3. Protection activity shows how often a protection kept a hidden field away from Cee, per day.
  4. Conversations shows how many conversations are stored, sets how long they are kept, and deletes one dashboard user's conversations, for a data deletion request for example.
  5. Change history shows who changed the AI settings, and when.

The Cee Privacy page walkthrough in this guide covers each of these views.

FAQs

Can I limit Cee in one project only?

Yes, through the lists. Pick an event or property under that project in Hidden events, Hidden properties or the allowed lists, and the entry applies there only.

Will people know when Cee is limited?

Yes, for the big limits. Cee says so as soon as the chat opens, as described in What people see when Cee is limited.

Can Cee reach a project someone cannot open?

No. Each person's Cee works only in the projects that person can open.

What happens to earlier conversations when I hide a field?

When a conversation continues, earlier messages that mention a field you have since hidden are no longer passed to Cee.

Does Countly receive our conversations?

Not by default. While Server telemetry: events is on, this server has its own domain and is not in offline mode, Cee sends usage data to Countly, such as which model it used, token counts, cost, response times, which tools it ran and whether each step succeeded, plus thumbs up and down. What people ask and what Cee answers are not part of it. Turning on Share AI content with Countly adds that text, the values Cee passed to its tools and feedback comments, so Countly can then see figures from your data that Cee quoted. Hidden fields are never sent in the usage data or the conversation text, whichever way the setting is set.

Who can read a conversation?

Only the person who had it. An administrator can delete a dashboard user's conversations in Cee Privacy, but cannot open them.

Does Cee cost money with our own keys?

Yes, on your provider account. Every answer, summary, investigation and build request is a model call there, and a new conversation's title is one small call on the provider's cheapest model. Checking a key and listing its models are free; checking a model typed in by name is one small call. Countly does not show what your own keys spend, so follow it in your provider's console.

Which models can we use with our own keys?

OpenAI, Google Gemini and Anthropic models that call tools and return structured answers. The model list shows what your keys offer, and a model typed in by name is checked with your key before it can be saved. Models from other providers are not supported.

Who can see our provider keys?

Only global administrators, in Settings, AI Assistants. Other members never receive them, and Change history records that a key changed but never the key itself. When a provider rejects a key, Cee tells people so without showing it. A key set in the server environment is never shown; the settings only say that it comes from there.
