Switching Between the Classic and the New Version of Countly

Countly now comes in two versions: the classic version you know, and a new version rebuilt around how you work. From Countly 27, both versions run side by side, and you can move between them whenever you like. This article explains where the switch is, what stays the same when you use it, and how Countly remembers your choice.

Availability

The switch needs Countly 27 or later. Older versions cannot show both versions on one address, so your server must be upgraded first. After the upgrade, every user can switch. If you do not see the switch, see Frequently Asked Questions below.

Understanding the Two Versions

Both versions read the same data. Your projects, events, users, and saved work are the same in each one, dashboards included. Only the screens are different.

  • The classic version is the interface Countly has had until now.
  • The new version is the rebuilt interface. It adds tools such as Cee, the AI assistant, Discover search, built-in guides, ten languages, and a dark mode.

When you first open the new version, a welcome message, a short tour, and What's new show you what changed. Each of them shows once.

Finding the Switch

The switch is in a different place in each version.

You are in Where the switch is What it is called
The classic version A card on Home, and a link at the bottom of the Sidebar's main menu Try the new version
The new version The profile menu at the top right of the page Dashboard version > Classic

In the classic version:

The Give the new Countly another try card on Home in the classic version, with Try the new version
The Try the new version link at the bottom of the Sidebar in the classic version

In the new version:

The Dashboard version option in the profile menu of the new version, with Classic and New

When you switch from the classic version to the new version, Countly opens the same page, in the same project, for the same time period. You continue where you were.

The first time you switch back to the classic version, Countly asks you to confirm. On some servers, it also asks one optional question: what made you switch back. Your answer helps us find what the new version still lacks. You can skip it, and Countly does not ask again in this browser.

Understanding What Carries Over

Your Sign-in

You sign in once. A sign-in to the classic version also signs you in to the new version, so the switch does not ask for your password again. When you sign out of the classic version, Countly signs you out of the new version too.

Your Choice

Countly remembers your choice in this browser for one year. The next time you open Countly in this browser, you see the version you chose last. Countly also saves your choice on your account.

A browser where you never chose a version starts on the classic version. To use the new version there, switch once in that browser.

Items Created in the New Version

Some items, such as journeys and content blocks, are managed only in the new version once someone creates or edits them there. In the classic version, these items show a New dashboard badge. You can view them, but you cannot change them there. Click the badge to open the item in the new version.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I not see the switch?

Your server must run Countly 27 or later. On older versions, there is no switch. If your server runs Countly 27 or later and you still do not see the switch, contact your administrator.

Do I lose data when I switch?

No. Both versions read and write the same data. Switching changes only the screens you see.

Why did a link open the classic version?

Some links work only in the classic version, for example a shared crash link, a report download, or a sign-in link from an e-mail. When you open one of them, Countly opens the classic version and remembers that as your choice. Use Try the new version to go back.

Can my teammates use a different version than I do?

Yes. Each person chooses their own version, and each browser keeps its own choice.

How do I go back to the new version after I switched to classic?

In the classic version, click Try the new version on Home or at the bottom of the Sidebar's main menu.
