Home

Your project at a glance. Active profiles, usage, stability, engagement and more, in sections you can reorder, open in full or hide.

What Home is

Home is the start page of a project, the first page under Analytics. It sums up how the project is doing in a few sections, so you can see what changed before you open a full report.

  • Sections follow the product. Each section covers one part of it, such as Active profiles, Usage or Stability, and says under its name which question its tiles answer.
  • Every tile opens its report. A tile answers one question, and its link takes you to the page it summarizes, such as Sessions or Crashes.
  • The whole page follows the date range and the filter at the top, except for the tiles that say otherwise with a chip beside their title.
  • The live badge beside the title counts the profiles active in the last few minutes and how many of them are new. Click it to open Online profiles.
  • Home shows the project picked in the top bar. Switching projects starts the page afresh, without the filter or the sections you opened.

Home adjusts to what your project uses.

  • A section whose features are turned off for the project does not appear.
  • A section for something the project has not started yet, such as crash reporting or saved funnels, shows a grayed-out picture of what it would hold. Learn more explains how to start.
  • A tile for a feature you have no access to stays in place with a notice that names the feature, so you know it exists and whom to ask.

How your Home layout is chosen

A Home layout decides three things for each section: where it sits in the page, whether it opens in full or as a peek, and whether it is hidden. It cannot add, remove or resize the tiles inside a section.

The layout you see is built in three layers, each one overriding the one before it.

  1. The built-in default. Active profiles and Usage open in full, and the other sections open as a peek.
  2. The project's layout, if an admin of the project has set one for everyone.
  3. Your own layout, if you have set one. It wins over the project's.

A few rules hold whatever the layers say.

  • Active profiles and Usage are always shown. They can move and switch between peek and full, but they cannot be hidden.
  • A section added to Home after you saved your layout appears where the default puts it, rather than at the bottom.
  • People who set up their own Home keep it when an admin changes the layout for everyone. To follow the project's layout again, they reset theirs to the default.

Your layout and the project's are saved on the server, so they follow you to any browser or computer.

Use Cases

Check how your project is doing

See at a glance how the project is doing, then go deeper where something moved.

  1. Open Home from the Analytics menu, and check that the top bar shows the project you want.
  2. Pick the period in the date range at the top right. Every tile covers it unless a chip beside its title says otherwise.
  3. Start with Active profiles, which shows how many profiles are active by day, week and month, and which way that is heading.
  4. Scroll down the sections. A section that opens as a peek shows its first row fading out. Click it to open the whole section, and Show less folds it again. To have a section open every time, set it to Full (see Arrange Home for yourself).
  5. Hover over a tile that caught your eye and click the link at its bottom right to open the full report.
  6. To see who is on the product right now, click the live badge beside the title.

Narrow Home to a group of profiles

See the same summary for one group of profiles, such as the people in one country or on one plan.

  1. Click the filter above the sections and pick a profile property and the values you want. Home filters by profile properties only, so the filter applies to every tile that can take it.
  2. Read the tiles as usual. Each one now counts only the profiles that match.
  3. Look for a chip beside a tile's title. It marks a tile the filter cannot narrow, and hovering over it says why:
    • Active profiles are counted ahead of time for each day, so the filter cannot narrow them. The date range still applies.
    • Top crashes lists crash groups, which the filter cannot narrow. The date range still applies.
    • Best-converting funnels, Largest cohorts, Active journeys and Recent messages list those items as they are now, and follow neither the filter nor the date range.
  4. To go back to every profile, clear the filter.

The filter is part of the page's link, so going back or sharing the link keeps it. It is not saved with the layout, and switching projects clears it.

Arrange Home for yourself

Put the sections you check most at the top, open them in full, and hide the ones you never read.

  1. Open the menu (⋮) next to the date range and pick Configure Home for me. Each section's heading turns into a tray with its controls, and a bar at the bottom of the page holds the actions.
  2. Use the arrows to move a section up or down.
  3. Pick how the section opens. Peek shows its first row and fades out, and you open the rest with Show more. Full shows the whole section.
  4. Click the eye to hide a section. It stays in the list, marked Hidden, and the same button shows it again.
  5. Click Save. Your layout applies right away.

To leave without saving, click Cancel. If you changed something, you are asked to confirm first. Reset to default brings back the layout you would have without your own. That is the project's layout if an admin has set one, and the built-in default otherwise. Save afterwards to keep it.

Set the layout for everyone in a project

Give everyone in a project a starting layout that fits it, for example with Stability first for a team focused on quality.

You need to be an admin of the project. For everyone else the menu item is unavailable and says why.

  1. Open the menu (⋮) next to the date range and pick Configure Home for everyone in your project. While you edit, the page shows the project's layout alone, without your own changes, so you see what everyone gets.
  2. Move, open and hide sections with the same controls as in Arrange Home for yourself.
  3. Click Save, then Save for everyone to confirm.

When you edit for everyone, Reset to default brings back the built-in layout. When you save, you are asked to confirm Reset for everyone.

The project's layout applies to everyone who has not set up their own Home. People who have keep theirs.

FAQs

Why is a section missing from my Home?

Either the feature behind it is turned off for the project, or the section is hidden in your layout or the project's. Open Configure Home for me from the menu. Hidden sections are listed there, marked Hidden, and the eye button shows them again.

Why does Acquisition show an introduction instead of figures?

Acquisition shows figures once sessions carry a UTM medium, and it looks for one in the 90 days up to the end of your date range. Tag your campaign links with UTM parameters and new profiles arrive with their source, medium and campaign.

Why didn't a tile change when I changed the date range or the filter?

Some tiles do not follow one or both, and they say so with a chip beside their title. Hover over the chip for the reason.

I saved a layout for everyone, but a colleague still sees their own arrangement. Why?

People who set up their own Home keep it. To follow the project's layout, they reset theirs to the default.

Can I add my own charts to Home?

No. Home's tiles are fixed, and you arrange whole sections. Build a dashboard for charts you choose yourself.

Why can't I hide Active profiles or Usage?

They are always shown, so everyone who opens Home sees them. You can still move them and choose whether they open in full or as a peek.

Why does a tile say I do not have access?

You have no access to the feature that tile summarizes in this project. A project admin can give it to you.
