Feature Management

Choose which features are switched on for this server. Turn a feature on or off for everyone, and see what each one depends on before you change it.

What the Features page controls

Countly is built out of features: Drill, Funnels, Crashes, Push, Cohorts and the rest. Each one can be switched on or off, and the Features page is where that happens.

The page lists every feature this installation ships with, shows whether it is currently on, and lets a global administrator change it. A feature that is switched off stops doing its work and disappears from the dashboard menus. A feature that is switched back on returns, along with everything it was collecting before.

Two things are worth knowing before you touch a switch. The setting is server-wide, so it applies to every project and every user on this installation rather than to the project you happen to be viewing. And it applies as soon as you confirm, with nothing to restart.

How features depend on each other

Features are not independent of one another. Funnels and Flows are built on the same querying that Drill provides, so they cannot run without it. The Features page shows these relationships in two columns, one for each direction.

Depends on lists what a feature needs in order to work. Dependent features lists what needs this feature in order to work.

Countly keeps those relationships intact for you rather than letting you break them. Switching a feature on also switches on whatever it depends on. Switching a feature off also switches off whatever depends on it.

This follows the whole chain, not just the immediate neighbors. If Funnels needs Drill and Drill needs something else in turn, enabling Funnels brings up all of them. This is why disabling a widely used feature can affect a longer list than its own column suggests, and why the confirmation names the full list before anything changes.

Use Cases

Turn a feature on or off

Switch a Countly feature on or off for this installation.

  1. Open Manage > Features.
  2. Find the feature you want, either by typing into the search box or by narrowing the list with the All features / Enabled / Disabled filter above it.
  3. Use the switch in the Enabled column at the end of its row.
  4. Read the confirmation before you accept it. When the change affects other features, the confirmation names every one of them.
  5. Choose Enable or Disable to go ahead, or Cancel to leave things as they are.

Find out what a feature will take with it

See everything a change would affect before you commit to it.

  1. Open Manage > Features.
  2. Find the feature you are thinking of switching off.
  3. Read its Dependent features column. Those features are built on this one and stop working without it.
  4. For the complete picture, flip the switch but do not confirm yet. The confirmation lists every feature that would change, including ones further down the chain that the column does not show.
  5. Choose Cancel if the list is longer than you expected. Nothing has changed at this point.

Export the feature list

Keep a record of what this installation has switched on, for a handover, an audit, or a comparison against another environment.

  1. Open Manage > Features.
  2. Optionally narrow the list first with the All features / Enabled / Disabled filter, depending on whether you want everything or only one state.
  3. Use the download button in the toolbar above the list.
  4. Give the file a name and choose a format.
  5. Choose Download.

FAQs

Does turning a feature off delete the data it collected?

Switching a feature off is not a deletion step. It records the feature's new state and Countly reloads with it inactive, so the feature stops running and leaves the dashboard menus. Removing stored data is a separate job with its own tools, in Cleanup Center under Manage.

Can I turn a feature on for one project only?

No. Features are switched on or off for the whole installation. Restricting what a particular team can reach is a matter of user permissions rather than of these switches.

Why did switching one feature off affect several others?

Because those others are built on it and cannot run without it. The confirmation names every affected feature before you accept, which is the point at which to reconsider.

Why can I not see the list?

The page is limited to global administrators. If you need a feature switched, ask one of them rather than looking for the setting elsewhere.

Do I need to restart anything after a change?

No. The change takes effect as soon as you confirm it.

How do I find out who switched a feature?

Audit Logs records every change made here, including who made it and what moved.
