Settings Overview

Settings is a core feature of Countly. No additional plugins are required.

Settings is the main control panel for configuring your Countly Server. It allows you to manage how data is processed, how the interface behaves, how logging works, and how your server is secured. You can also configure individual feature behavior without enabling or disabling them.

To access Settings, in the Sidebar, go to Management > Settings.

Understanding the Settings View

When you open Settings, you will see two main sections in the left-side panel and a configuration panel on the right:

  1. Core Settings: Contains settings for everything that is not a feature and cannot be disabled. This section includes grouped settings for your Countly Server's API, Frontend, Logs, Security, and Tracking configuration.
  2. Feature Management Settings: Contains settings for the individual features and plugins installed on your Countly Server. The parameters you set here directly affect how data gets displayed and collected by the corresponding feature.
  3. Configuration Panel: Displays the settings for the selected item from sections 1 or 2. By default, it shows the settings for the first item in the list (e.g., API).

Select any item from the Core Settings or Feature Management Settings list to view and modify its configuration in the panel on the right.

Permissions

Accessing and modifying settings requires specific permissions:

  • Viewing settings: Requires App Admin privileges or higher.
  • Modifying settings: Requires Global Admin privileges.

If you do not have the required permissions, the Settings option will not appear in your Sidebar menu.

Core Settings

Core Settings control the fundamental behavior of your Countly Server. These settings are always available and cannot be disabled. Each section addresses a different aspect of your server configuration:

API

The API Settings section allows you to configure batch processing, cache management, data limits, and general API behavior. These settings directly affect how your Countly Server processes incoming data from SDKs and handles write operations to the database.

Frontend

The Frontend Settings section provides options for customizing the Countly interface, including session timeout, visual theming, Google Services integration, and production mode. These settings affect all users on the server unless overridden at the user level.

Logs

The Logs Settings section controls the logging levels for different server modules. You can configure debug, info, warning, and error levels for individual modules and set a default level for the rest. This is useful for diagnosing issues and monitoring server health.

Security

The Security Settings section manages authentication policies, password requirements, rate limiting, HTTP response headers, and proxy configuration. These settings help you enforce your organization's security standards and protect your Countly Server from unauthorized access.

Tracking

The Tracking Settings section controls how your Countly Server reports usage data. This includes self-tracking (monitoring how your team uses Countly) and server-level tracking (anonymized data that helps us improve the product).

Feature Management Settings

Feature Management Settings allow you to configure the behavior of individual features and plugins installed on your Countly Server. The available settings depend on which plugins are installed and may include options for data collection thresholds, display preferences, and feature-specific behaviors. For detailed information on the meaning and impact of each setting, please refer to the User Guide corresponding to each particular feature.

Saving Changes

After modifying any setting, click the Save button at the top of the configuration panel to apply your changes. A confirmation message will appear to indicate that your settings have been saved successfully.

Some settings require a server restart to take effect. These are noted in their respective documentation. If a setting requires a restart, plan the change during a maintenance window to avoid disruptions.

Searching for Settings

If you are looking for a specific setting and are not sure which section it belongs to, use the search functionality at the top of the Settings View. Type a keyword related to the setting you are looking for, and Countly will filter the results across all Core Settings and Feature Management Settings sections.

App-Level Configuration Overrides

Some settings can be overridden at the application level, meaning different apps on the same server can have different configurations. App-level overrides take precedence over global settings.

To configure app-level overrides, in the Sidebar, go to Management > Applications, select the app you want to configure, and look for the feature-specific settings in the app management panel. For a complete list of settings that support app-level overrides, refer to the documentation below.

FAQ and Troubleshooting

How do I access the Settings page?

In the Sidebar, go to Management > Settings. If you do not see this option, you may not have the required permissions. Contact your Global Admin to request access.

How do I know which settings require a server restart?

Settings that require a server restart are noted in their individual documentation pages. Currently, the API Rate Limit settings in the Security section require a restart after changes.

How do I apply different settings for different apps?

Use app-level configuration overrides. In the Sidebar, go to Management > Applications, select the app, and modify the available settings in the app management panel. Not all settings support app-level overrides.

How do I reset a setting to its default value?

There is no one-click reset button. To restore a default value, refer to the documentation for the specific setting to find its default, and manually enter that value in the configuration panel.
